Ebeneezer’s creed:
A pound saved is a pound earned.
In excess, he flouts morality
and so raises the ghouls who
place his clout in doubt
(from 10-27-22):
Catastrophe at Carry Castle
A Marvy Party Raises a Ruckus
(These are the little known titles of lost Hardy Boys mysteries)
(from 10-30-22):
Australia’s new unofficial national anthem (if ever there were to be one) may go a little something like this:
Under the shade of a Coolibah tree
A jolly swagman camped by a billabong
Down came a jumbuck who fancied a drink
Hope we: he won’t stow that jumbuck in his tucker bag
Hope we to raise a glass from our vault
In batik dress we will waltz for that swagman
Singing “Who’ll Come a Waltzing Matilda With Me?”
(from 10-31-22):
Among the children raised in literary homes one Alpha trick-or-treater applied his memory best on Halloween. Pulling quotes from Ray Bradbury: “Ah yes, Joe Pipkin. Some say that on the day he was born, all the soda pop bottles in the world fizzed over. Pipkin who could yell louder, sing better, and eat more popcorn. Pip, the greatest boy who ever lived.” Poe: “I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.” and Irving: “Just then he saw the goblin rising in his stirrups, and in the very act of hurling his head at him, Ichabod endeavored to dodge the horrible missile, but too late.” He led the group to houses most receptive most appreciative people aptly suited to listen who welcomed the small hands selecting their favorites adding candies to their pillow case poundage.
(from 11-3-22):
We, dusty fingered, draw with ampul-sized instruments of art! Now, drop the chalk, raise your rock, Don’t hit the lines that we’ve designed. Count aloud and, skillful, hop from square-to-square. Our block's sidewalk!
So, dear reader, in the comments, post your poems, but remember not to post any poems until at least one day after the current puzzle.
Good work!
