Hi Diana, I just read “Log Cabin.” You most definitely left me wanting more. I like the way this story illustrates some of the things you wrote about on the Story Club Substack: repeating motifs, symbolism, circular patterns. Two sentences that particularly grabbed my attention on this first read: “At the windows, January’s snowdrifts rose like dough up and over the sills.” So visual and tactile. And, “Gravity had pulled her to him with the force of the moon.” Twelve words with such power. I can feel the centrifugal force, bringing the tide in. Also I found it interesting how you rendered the claustrophobic sense of disappointment, longing, isolation, despair. Especially with the dead wood holding pattern. Thank you so much for this!!

Thank you, David! What fun it is to receive your specific and enthusiastic commentary. Do you plan to publish your writing in Substack or do you have pieces in literary journals?

Except for a passionate letter about the insanity of revenge that TIME published when I was fourteen, I have no publications, just manuscripts that need work. I keep trying to give up on writing, but it’s relentless, it won’t leave me alone! Anyway I might have something worthy of publication a few months down the road. I will keep you posted!

Please do! And that’s a fascinating letter topic. Thrilling to be published at a young age!

It was thrilling. Unfortunately I thought I had arrived. Until I realized I had not. Which set me on a whole different path I had not anticipated. Which ultimately brought me to now and here.

More later! Have a great day, and I am so glad to have met you, and very grateful for your thoughts and ideas!
